OUR STORY

In 2020, after weeks of lockdown, I ventured out to Accra’s arts & crafts districts to find new pieces to refresh my space. While out, I stumbled upon baskets that captivated me. I hadn’t previously thought of baskets as art pieces for fashion or home décor. But here I was, mesmerized by unique designs and colors of woven products for various functions.
So, I started exploring more and got closer to the source of the craftmanship in northern Ghana where I’m from. Over the last couple of years, I have thrown my heart into finding the most creative designers and most skillful artisans to bring you unique woven products and other arts & crafts.

I trust you will find something to your own heart’s desire among the assortment of collectibles carefully sourced and curated for this store. And when you do, I appreciate that you’ve found a piece of Ghana or Africa that speaks to you that you can share with the world or just keep for your private fulfilment. Thank you from the tens of men and women who pick our raw material, the artisans who craft them into unique artful pieces, and all those in the supply chain who endeavor for you to receive that special piece that caught your eye. And if you don’t find the piece that’s just right for you, write to me and we’ll endeavor to create that piece unique to you.

ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS

Amirah products are woven, well, by hand from elephant grass from the savanna grasslands of northern Ghana. Our colors come from non-toxic, plant-based dyes. Most of our weavers are based in and around Bolgatanga, capital of Ghana’s Upper East Region. Indeed, our baskets are popularly called the Bolga basket and are known for the intergenerational craftsmanship behind them. Our hats too have been perfected over the years to provide shade from the brutal savanna sun.

Thanks to you, we’re privileged to help continue the tradition and share it with the world. Together, our woven products offer function—from laundry to shopping to the office—and style that make them unique pieces for fashion as well as home décor. While we’re at it, we offer you a range of complimentary items, such as masks, hats and drums, that give you creative options for a holistic feel of northern Ghana or as accents to your style.

Our Mission

To match people around the world with unique arts and crafts from African communities.

Our Vision
